Edison Manufacturing Company production. / Cinematography by [?] William Heise? / No copyright registration. Premiered (as a projection subject) 23 April 1896 at Koster and Bial’s Music Hall in New York, New York. / Kinetoscope 35mm spherical 1.33:1 format. / The film was shot before early March 1894. Early Edison motion subject used as part of the premiere presentation of Edison’s Vitascope motion picture projection system. Edison had to replace this film’s worn negative in 1894, see listing for New Barbershop (1894); a film positive has survived, it is unknown whether the surviving print is this film or the remake.

Synopsis: A customer gets a quick shave from a barber while two others wait. A sign is visible in the background: “The latest wonder shave and hair cut for a nickel.”

Survival status: Prints exist in the Library of Congress film archive; and in the Museum of Modern Art film archive [35mm preservation positive].
