Synopsis: [?] [From The Moving Picture World]? The boys of Simms’ ranch play a joke on Shorty by putting a stale egg at his place for breakfast. Shorty gets angry and throws the egg at the cook, who dodges, and the egg hits Simms in the face. This starts an argument and Shorty is “fired.” Shorty bundles his few clothes, mounts his horse and rides away. He sees a notice offering $500 reward for the capture, dead or alive, of a bandit known as the “Desert Rat.” Shorty sees the “Desert Rat” holding up the stage and plans to capture him, but instead he is wounded by the bandit. One of the passengers who had shot at the bandit, tells the sheriff that he has hit the man and that they can trail him by the blood stains. They find the trail and follow Shorty to the bandit’s cabin, where he has taken refuge. He is arrested, found guilty and sentenced to be hanged, but is saved by the bandit’s wife, who persuaded her husband to make a written confession before he died.
